The WATER 2020 program will include Special Sessions. Their objective is to include in the technical program new or emerging topics that are of particular interest to our community. These Special Sessions may also cut across and beyond disciplines traditionally represented at WATER Conferences. Special Session proposals need to address topics that do not pertain to well-established tracks of WATER Conferences.

Each session should have at least five (5) oral presentations.

Each presentation should last a maximum of 15 minutes.

If you would like to propose a Special Session to WATER 2020, you are invited to send your  proposal via e-mail (in either PDF or WORD format) to the Organizing Committee, indicating:

  • Title of the session
  • A brief summary of the session contents describing the potential impact of the proposed session, the novelty of the topic and/or its multidisciplinary features
  • Topic area
  • Short biography of the organizers (one or two people)
  • List of at least five (5) contributed papers (including titles, authors, contact information of the corresponding author, and a short abstract of each contribution). Organizers should not contribute with more than one paper.

Important Dates:
Special Session Proposals due:
Notification of acceptance of the Special Session:
Submission of papers for approved Special Sessions: April 15, 2020
Notification of Special Session papers acceptance: April 30, 2020

After having received your session proposal, it will be evaluated and you will receive an acceptance/rejection notification by email.

After Special Session proposals are approved, authors contributing to a Special Session should submit their paper using the standard procedure of the online submission system. Manuscripts submitted to the Special Sessions should conform to the formatting and electronic submission guidelines of regular WATER 2020 papers. Papers will undergo the same review process as regular papers. If, at the end of the review process, fewer than five (5) papers are accepted, the session will be cancelled and the accepted papers will be moved to regular sessions.

If your session is accepted, presenting authors should register and confirm their attendance before May 30, 2020 (author registration deadline). The registration of a minimum of 5 authors per special session is required. If authors were not registered by the deadline, the session would not be included in the Conference Program.

Special session's organizers are expected to attend the conference and chair the session.
